How to Draw a Lamb
Step by Step

Cute colored lamb drawing with cream wool, pink ears and grey hooves
Learning how to draw a lamb is easier than you think. This cute lamb drawing uses simple shapes, mostly bumpy "cloud" lines, so kids and beginners can follow along in about 15 minutes. Each step adds one new part, shown in red, so you always know exactly what to draw next. At the end, you'll have a fluffy baby sheep with floppy ears, a woolly tuft and a puffy tail, ready to color.

🖊️ What You Need

If you like drawing on a screen, a digital drawing tablet and stylus work great too. But paper is all you really need for an easy drawing.

Step-by-Step Instructions to Draw a Lamb

Start with a light pencil so you can erase easily. Trace over your final lines with a marker at the end.

Step 1: Draw the Lamb’s Fluffy Head

Draw a wide, bumpy outline that looks like a little cloud. Make small, round bumps along the top and both sides. Finish the bottom with a smooth, gently curved line for the chin.

Tip: Keep the bumps about the same size. That makes the wool look neat and even.

Step 2: Add the Left Ear

On the left side of the head, draw a long, rounded oval for the ear. Let it point outward and slightly down, so it looks soft and floppy.

Step 3: Add the Right Ear

Draw the same ear on the right side. Try to match the size and angle of the first ear, like a mirror.

Tip: Lightly mark where the ear should end before you draw it. This helps both ears match.

Step 4: Draw the Eyes

Draw two small oval eyes in the lower half of the face, spaced wide apart. Color them in, but leave a tiny white circle in each eye. That little shine makes your lamb look cute and alive.

Step 5: Draw the Nose and Smile

Between the eyes and a little lower, draw a tiny nose. Add a short line going down from it, then a small “w” shape for a happy smile.

Step 6: Add the Woolly Tuft on Top

Now give your lamb some hair! Draw a curly, cloud-like tuft of wool across the top of the head. Make the bottom edge bumpy too, sitting just above the eyes. Erase the old head line inside the tuft.

Your lamb face is now finished. If you only want to draw a lamb’s face, you can stop here.

Step 7: Draw the Fluffy Body

Start just behind the right ear and draw a big, bumpy cloud shape for the body. Bring it out to the right, then curve it down and back under the head.

Tip: The body should be about one and a half times as wide as the head. Lambs look cutest with a big head and a small, round body.

Step 8: Add a Puffy Tail

At the back end of the body, draw a small, round, bumpy shape for the tail. It’s just a tiny cloud!

Step 9: Draw the Front Legs

Under the front of the body, draw two thin, straight legs side by side. Near the bottom of each leg, draw a short line across. The part below it is the hoof. Round off the bottom of each hoof.

Step 10: Draw the Back Legs

Draw two more legs with hooves under the back of the body. Make them the same length as the front legs so your lamb stands straight.

Step 11: Finish and Color Your Lamb

Erase any extra pencil lines. Then trace over your lamb with a black marker.

Now it’s time to color! Here’s a simple color guide:

  • Wool: leave it white, or use a soft cream color
  • Face and ears: light beige, with pale pink inside the ears
  • Hooves: grey or dark brown
  • Background: green grass and a blue sky make your lamb pop

Common Mistakes (and How to Fix Them)

  • Wool bumps are all different sizes. Draw slowly and keep each bump about the same size as your fingertip.
  • Legs are too long. Lamb legs are short and thin. If your lamb looks like a goat, shorten the legs.
  • Ears point straight up. Lamb ears are floppy. Angle them outward and slightly down.
  • Eyes are too high. Place the eyes in the lower half of the face. This makes the lamb look younger and cuter.
  • Lines are too dark too soon. Sketch lightly first. Use the marker only at the very end.

Lamb vs. Sheep: What’s the Difference?

A lamb is a baby sheep, usually less than one year old. When you draw a lamb instead of an adult sheep, make the head bigger compared to the body and keep the legs short. This drawing uses those proportions, which is why it looks so young and cute.

Want to draw a grown-up sheep? Use the same steps, but make the body bigger and the legs a little longer.
