🖊️ What You Need

If you like drawing on a screen, a digital drawing tablet and stylus work great too. But paper is all you really need for an easy drawing.

How to Draw a Tiger Step By Step Guide

Step 1: Draw the Head Shape

Draw a wide, rounded head shape. Make the top round and let the cheeks come out to a soft point on each side, a bit like a rounded lemon lying sideways.

Step 2: Add the Muzzle

Near the bottom center of the head, draw a round muzzle. Let its bottom edge touch the chin line.

Step 3: Draw the Left Ear

On the upper left side of the head, draw a big rounded ear. It should look like a half circle sitting behind the head.

Step 4: Draw the Right Ear

Now draw the right ear the same size as the left one, so the two ears mirror each other.

Step 5: Add the Inner Ears

Inside each ear, draw a smaller curved line. This gives the ears depth.

Step 6: Draw the Eyes

Just above the muzzle, draw two oval eyes. Leave a small circle in each eye white for the shine, then fill in the rest. Big eyes make your tiger look extra cute.

Step 7: Add the Eyebrows

Draw a short, curved eyebrow above each eye. Small details like this give your tiger a friendly expression.

Step 8: Draw the Nose and Mouth

At the top of the muzzle, draw a rounded nose and fill it in. Below it, draw a small smiling mouth with two tiny fangs.

Step 9: Add Cheek Stripes

Along both sides of the face, draw wavy stripes that start at the edge of the head and point inward. Try to make both sides look similar.

Draw the Tiger Body (Steps 11–16)

Our tiger cub is sitting down, which makes the body short, round, and easy to draw.

Step 11: Draw the Front Leg and Back

Under the left side of the head, draw one front leg going straight down with a rounded paw at the bottom. Then, from the right side of the head, draw a curved line for the back.

Step 12: Draw the Back Leg

Inside the back curve, draw the folded back leg. Finish it with a rounded paw resting on the ground.

Step 13: Draw the Chest

Draw a line from under the left side of the head down toward the ground. This shapes the tiger’s chest.

Step 14: Add the Second Front Leg

Next to the chest line, draw the second front leg with its paw, so both front paws sit side by side.

Step 15: Draw the Tail

From the back of the body, draw a long tail that curls up at the tip. Use two lines that stay the same distance apart and join in a round end.

Step 16: Add the Toes

On each paw, draw two or three short lines to make the toes.

Add the Stripes and Finish (Steps 17–18)

Step 17: Draw the Body Stripes

Without stripes, a tiger is just a big cat! Add stripes on the body, legs, and tail. Draw them as short, pointed shapes that come in from the edges and curve with the body. Rings work best on the tail.

Step 18: Trace and Finish

Trace over your favorite pencil lines with a black marker. Wait a minute for the ink to dry, then erase the leftover pencil marks. Your cute tiger drawing is finished!

Common Mistakes (and How to Fix Them)

  • The head is too small. This is a cute cartoon tiger, so the head should be about as big as the whole body. If your tiger looks like a grown-up cat, make the head bigger.
  • The eyes are too far apart. Keep the eyes close to the muzzle, just above it. Eyes that sit near the edges of the face look strange.
  • The stripes are straight. Real tiger stripes curve around the body. Bend your stripes so they follow the shape of the head, legs, and tail.
  • Pressing too hard with the pencil. Dark pencil lines are hard to erase. Draw lightly and trace the final lines with a marker.
  • The ears don’t match. Draw the second ear while looking at the first one, and check that both sit at the same height.
  • The tiger looks flat. Add the inner ear lines, toes, and the chest line. These small lines make the drawing look more finished.

Fun Tiger Facts for Kids

While your drawing dries, here are some cool facts about tigers:

  • Tigers are the biggest cats in the world, even bigger than lions.
  • No two tigers have the same stripes, just like people have different fingerprints.
  • A tiger’s skin is striped too, not just its fur.
  • Unlike most cats, tigers love water and are great swimmers.
  • Wild tigers live only in Asia, in forests, grasslands, and mangrove swamps.
  • Tiger cubs are born with their eyes closed and stay with their mother for about two years.
  • Tigers are endangered. Groups like [WWF] work to protect them in the wild.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you draw a tiger easy for kids?

Start with a round head and a muzzle, then add the ears, eyes, nose, and mouth. Next, draw a simple sitting body with short legs and a curly tail. Add stripes last. Breaking the drawing into small steps, like the 18 steps above, makes it easy for kids.

How do you draw tiger stripes?

Draw stripes as thin, pointed shapes that start at the edge of the body and curve inward. Make them follow the shape of the body instead of drawing straight lines. On the tail, draw stripes as rings.

What colors do I need to color a tiger?

You need orange for the body, black for the stripes, cream or light yellow for the muzzle and belly, and pink for the nose and inner ears.

How long does it take to draw a tiger?

This easy tiger drawing takes about 15–20 minutes, plus extra time for coloring.

Can a 5-year-old draw this tiger?

Yes. Each step adds only one or two lines, and the red lines show exactly what to draw. Younger kids can use page 3 of the free printable to trace the tiger first.

What is the easiest part of a tiger to draw first?

The head. It is mostly round shapes, and once the face is done, the rest of the tiger is quick.
