Step 1: Draw the Deck Outline
Start by drawing a long, rounded shape at a slight angle across your paper. Think of it like a stretched-out pill or a rounded rectangle tilted upward to the right. This is the top surface of the skateboard deck (the flat part you stand on). Keep the corners smooth and rounded — no sharp edges.
Step 2: Add the Curved Nose
Now let’s give the board its signature upturned tip. On the left (front) end of the deck, redraw the edge so it curves upward and slightly outward. This is the nose of the skateboard — the raised front tip that helps with tricks. Notice how the red line swoops up and around.
Step 3: Shape the Tail
Do the same thing on the right (back) end of the board. Redraw the far tip so it also curves upward, forming the tail. Now both ends of your skateboard turn up, just like a real board.
Step 4: Add the Deck Thickness
To make the skateboard look 3D, draw a curved line running just inside and below the front edge of the deck, following its shape. This gives the board depth and shows how thick the wooden deck really is. This line runs almost parallel to the bottom edge.
Step 5: Draw the First Wheel
Time for wheels! Below the right side of the board, draw a circle with a smaller circle inside it. The outer circle is the wheel, and the inner circle is the bearing in the center. Keep it round and neat.
Step 6: Connect the Wheel with a Truck
Connect the wheel to the underside of the deck using a short, curved shape. This is the truck — the metal part that holds the wheels onto the board. Draw a small curved bracket linking the top of the wheel up to the bottom of the deck.
Step 7: Draw the Second Wheel
On the left side, under the front of the board, draw another circle within a circle — exactly like Step 5. This is your second wheel. Place it so the board looks balanced on both ends.
Step 8: Add the Front Truck
Just like Step 6, connect the second wheel to the deck with another truck. Draw the small curved bracket joining the wheel to the underside of the board. Now your skateboard has both wheels and both trucks — it’s fully built!
Step 9: Add the Flame Design & Finish
Here’s the fun part! On top of the deck, draw a flame pattern using wavy, curved lines that meet at sharp points. Add smaller flame shapes inside the bigger ones for detail. Once you’re happy with it, go over your final lines with a black marker and erase any extra pencil marks.
Now color it in! We used red and orange flames on a white deck, with grey wheels and dark trucks — but you can use any colors you like.
Congratulations — you just drew a skateboard! 🛹
How to Draw a Skateboard the Easy Way (Quick 4-Step Version)
Short on time or drawing with a young child? Here’s the simplest version:
- Draw a long rounded shape at an angle (the deck).
- Add a line underneath it for thickness.
- Draw two circles below for the wheels and connect each with a small bracket (trucks).
- Decorate the top with your favorite design and color it in.
That’s it — a skateboard in four easy moves!
Cool Skateboard Design Ideas
The best part of drawing a skateboard is customizing the deck. Try these design ideas:
- 🔥 Flames — classic and easy (like our tutorial above)
- 💀 Skull graphic — bold and edgy
- ⭐ Stars and stripes — simple shapes, big impact
- 🌈 Rainbow stripes — great for younger artists
- ✍️ Your name or initials — make it personal
- 🐉 Dragon or animal — for a challenge
Mix and match colors to make your board totally unique!
How to Draw Different Types of Skateboards
Once you’ve mastered the classic board, try these shapes:
- Longboard — much longer and slimmer, great for cruising. Just stretch the deck out longer.
- Cruiser — shorter with a rounded, wider nose.
- Old-school (fish) shape — flat nose and a split “fish tail” at the back.
- Popsicle deck — the modern standard shape with matching rounded nose and tail (that’s what we drew!).
Tips for Coloring Your Skateboard
- Use grey shades for the wheels, leaving a small white highlight so they look shiny.
- Color the trucks dark grey or silver (they’re metal).
- The deck can be any color — bright colors pop the most.
- Add a shadow underneath the board so it looks like it’s sitting on the ground.
- Leave a thin white edge on the flames to make them glow.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it hard to draw a skateboard? Not at all! A skateboard is made of simple shapes — a long rounded deck and two circles for wheels. If you follow the steps one at a time, anyone can draw one in about 15 minutes.
What angle is best for drawing a skateboard? A 45-degree angle (side-angled view) is the most popular because it shows the deck, both wheels, and the 3D shape all at once. That’s the view used in this tutorial.
How do you draw skateboard wheels? Draw a circle, then a smaller circle inside it for the bearing. Keep both circles as round as you can — you can trace a coin or bottle cap if it helps.
How do you draw a skateboard for beginners? Start with the deck (a long rounded shape), add thickness with one inside line, then add two wheels as circles and connect them with small brackets called trucks. Finish with a design on top.
What is the flat part of a skateboard called? The flat part you stand on is called the deck. The metal parts holding the wheels are trucks, and the raised tips are the nose (front) and tail (back).
